Nutty Biscuits CONTAIN NUTS & EGG WHITE

These are really nice, and don't taste like the usual free from biscuits, more like regular nut biscuits. The method is quite different as you cut into fingers/shapes once baked. I don't usually post recipes which cannot be made MEWS free, and I doubt these could be egg free, but many people struggle to get adequate protein in their little ones, many of whom struggle with meat. So IF you are OK with egg white and nuts, these are great!

Ingredients

125g ground almonds
125g ground hazelnuts
100g sugar
1 egg white

Method

Mix together, spread thinly on a baking tray, bake for 12 minutes at 200.
Cut into shapes when warm.

Free From Easter eggs

With Easter just around the corner many people are asking for ideas for free from Easter treats.

There is a fantastic selection of gluten free easter eggs here which in many cases are also dairy and soya free. Remember most (but not all) people are fine with Soya Lecithin, it is a very highly purified oil and contains none of the protein to which most people react adversely.

Dairy free easter eggs re much easier to find than in past years, and children like the "Moo Free"

Many of the Hotel Chocolat chocolate is "free from", all are gluten free as far as I know (do check!) and all vegan ones are dairy free. Narrow your search and there is something for most people.

Great idea! Just like the "Pouched" pouches JoJoMaman Bebe are selling, these new refillable drink bottles are available in an increasing number of outlets as well as on the internet.

You could fill them with smoothies and save money buying the large cartons rather than the individual ones for school, or fill with your own purees.

These "Angry Birds" Pouches are from ebay but friends have found them on the High Street too.

Information on Milk Protein Allergy

GOSH have been giving out copies of the Allergy edition of "Small Talk" from Nutricia. It contains some excellent information on allergies, gut allergies and milk protein allergy in particular. It's publicly available here and well worth a read, especially the section by Dr Adam Fox, top Paediatric Allergist.

GOSH Inflammatory Bowel Disease Parents Open Day

Great Ormond Street Hospital
London Saturday 20th April 2013

Following patients and their families requests, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Department at Great Ormond Street Hospital are holding an open invite day for people and family members affected by Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD).

The aim is to raise awareness of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases and the specialist services available within GOSH to care for patients with IBD. Families will have an opportunity to interact with the Multidisplinary Gastroenterology team in an informal environment and also to meet other families living with Ulcerative Colitis and Crohns.

To book your place, please pay a small fee of £5.00 and complete the online booking form:

If you have any queries about this course, please contact the team on 0207 762982." We hope to see you all there.

NB This is for families suffering from Ulcerative Colitis and Chron's, not EGID sufferers although some have both. Patients are welcome to attend this open day and for this reason we are limiting course attendance to one parent/carer and one patient per household on this occasion.

Genius!

So clever! Again, from our Facebook group - this extremely clever idea to encourage your children to eat!

Poke gluten free spaghetti through free from sausages (eg left) then boil.

Fill your own puree pouches!!

I know many people who spend a small fortune on purees from the supermarket, children with reflux/EGID and babies tend to have a lot of pureed food and it can become quite expensive.       I was interested to see that JoJo Maman Bebe now sell empty pouches to fill yourself - means you can create your own blends too!
